I am happy to say that I am emerging gradually from the morass of distraction which afflicted me for a time. This is odd, because we are just embarking on the process of selling our house, and one might have expected that the distractions would have multiplied. Anyway, let’s just be grateful for the way things are. Among the more surprising of these developments has been the sudden realisation that the picture I have begun to plan takes me right back to the early days of my work as an artist. What I am intending to do is an image executed in soft pastel on a dedicated pastel paper.
There is no obvious explanation for this, but I have to admit that it does feel like coming home. I do hope that it doesn’t turn out to be a version of the old sci-fi story, where the central character finds himself recapitulating his life. I wonder if it might be connected, in some mysterious way, to the fact that we are planning to move house. Could it be the case that I have recovered a future?
This is all too metaphysical for me. I intend just to go with the flow.
