I am pleased (although, I have to confess, a little surprised) that I have managed to keep up my sketching schedule for so long. A part of me was resigned to a failure of will. Every day I feel that I learn a little more, as well as installing useful habits.
My latest venture was to assemble a collection of bottles and vases in a tribute to the work of Giorgio Morandi. His isn’t a name which trips readily off the tongues of most people, but I encountered him in my various ventures into Italian modernism. His speciality was enigmatic collections of bottles, jugs, vases and the like, all beautifully composed. (He drew landscapes as well, but I have to confess that I never found these to be quite as engaging.) There is always a kind of Zen meditation dimension to a Morandi still-life.
It was a fine exercise….but all those ellipses!
