Birthday suit?

Suddenly I find that my painting activity has taken off, after a long and frustrating break. I’ve had an idea that has to do with a novel representation of the creation stories. A series of images will explore the relationship between the “days” of creation in the traditional biblical myths, and different art forms. The scheme is a little vague in places still, but I’m now well-embarked, looking at the idea that “God moved on the face of the waters” and dance. Creation is danced into being. I’m quite pleased with the result so far, but I realise that it might pose challenges for some viewers. My dancing “God” is nude.

This makes entire sense to me. After all, why should God be modest? If his dance is an expression of his total freedom to create, what would be the purpose of clothing him?

There is a nice irony about this. The English euphemism for nudity is, of course, to be in one’s “birthday suit”. Tomorrow is my birthday! There seems to be a certain poetic appropriateness about that.
