I guess it was, to a certain extent, predictable, but is none the less a shock when it happened. The government has just introduced a period of quite severe national lockdown, and on the eve of my exhibition. It will simply not be possible for me to go ahead with it. You can imagine how distressed I am about that, having committed so much to developing the idea and promoting it.
There is a silver lining to this particular cloud. Had it happened a week later I would have put in all the effort required to hang the show, and it would have been closed. As it is the timing has been as fortunate as it could be, because it might now be possible for me to reschedule the event to some time next year.
Even so, despite this possibility, the experience has been rather like that of driving at high speed into a wall. If I can extend the metaphor, ar least the seat-belt seems to have worked!
