The British broadcaster Richard Osman has come up with a truly worrying scenario for the short-term future of US politics. Very shortly before he is compelled to relinquish office Donald Trump resigns, and is replaced for a few days by Mike Pence. During that interval Pence issues a Presidential pardon for Trump, making it impossible to hold him to account for any of his numerous misdemeanours.
I would love to know what the betting odds are at the moment for this outcome. In response to question during the electoral campaign, as to why he had paid so little in tax, Trump relied, “Because I’m smart”. He didn’t deny the accusation. Just think about that one.
