Well: not quite, but at least some welcome local press coverage. There is a very useful website run by a former colleague of mine at the University, which is devoted to the promotion of artists from Bradford (www.notjusthockney.co.uk). I doesn’t just feature contemporary artists, and not only painters, but people working in all media in the visual arts across the ages, who have lived in Bradford. It is both a valuable reference source but also a much-appreciated means of publicising the work of those of us who are active in the city at the present time. Every now and then the site is invited to contribute a piece to the big news screen in the city’s Centenary Square. We are on during November.
I have been fortunate to be invited to put in a selection of my pictures for display on this occasion. Covering the launch of the new display, the local newspaper (The Telegraph & Argus) has published today a double-page spread, and to my delight I found out that one of my pieces features in that article. It is hardly “fame”, but any publicity is hard to come by as an artist.*
