On the road

Just as I am getting into a new painting I find myself way-laid by another task. We have been living in this house for more than twenty years, and ever since we moved in the lane down the side of the house has been in need of repair. It is not a thoroughfare for which the public authority have responsibility, which falls to the residents. The task finally rose to the top of my “really must do it” this week, and I had delivered three large bags of gravel.

That was the easy bit! This has had to be be distributed along our section of the road. As I will be away next week (of which more anon) I screwed up my courage yesterday, and overcame my reluctance to leave my new painting project, and set to with shovel and wheelbarrow. The task is now complete, to my enormous satisfaction.* I do wonder, however, whether tomorrow my general feeling of smugness will be punished by an acute awareness of muscles I had forgotten that I possessed.

*And, I have to confess, a sense of superiority over the neighbours, who have yet to tackle their section of the road.
