Several years ago we went to a show by the celebrated stand-up comic Ken Dodd. Although he hails from Merseyside he tried to ingratiate himself with a Yorkshire audience by claiming to speak Yorkshire. Recognising the stereotypical tightfistedness of Yorkshire people he came out with the phrase, “‘Ow much?”
I’ve spent the day making a preliminary sort through my pictures, following up the idea I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, that I might make my continuing engagement with Almscliff Crag the theme of my forthcoming exhibition at the South Square Centre. I have been astonished to discover that (leaving aside items I have sold) it would be possible for me to assemble a collection of more than thirty pieces dealing with this theme. Several of these I had forgotten that I had done. I’m tempted to parody Doddy by exclaiming, “‘Ow many?”
Several of these items will need to be framed, and several I would like to tweak in various respects before showing them, but I do think that the idea is a good one, and I’ve become very engaged with it already.
