…. we are told, is better than three in a bush. It’s a bet on a small certainty rather than a large hypothetical gain. I’m juggling with a similar problem. I got back from the framer today a piece I might have mentioned before. It’s done in egg tempera, and includes multiple images of a laurel trunk, sawn through. I am really delighted by the result. The trouble is, however, that it presents me with a problem. I could put it into my forthcoming exhibition at the Manor House Museum and Gallery, in Ilkley, or I could submit it later in April for the annual Patchings competition. There is, however, a problem.
If I sell it in Ilkley, then what do I put into the competition? There is a possibility that it might not be accepted by the Patchings judges, in which case by withdrawing it from the Ilkley show I would have lost out completely. I suppose I could exhibit it in Ilkley, but marked as “not for sale”, and still keep it available as a competition entry. (I’m planning to do that with one of the pieces I’m entering at the South Square show.) I guess I’ll have to sleep on that one.
Now that the pressure has eased on preparation for my two exhibitions during April we are able to loosen-up socially, and tonight we will actually be entertaining at home for the first time in more than two years. I’m certainly looking forward to the event, but it is evident that we’re out of practice, as it feels like a rather bigger task than used to be the case.
