Preparing for two substantial exhibitions during the past month has been an eye-opener for me. I have discovered pieces I had forgotten that I had ever done, and more significantly, I have been able to look with fresh eyes on old material. It has been really encouraging on some occasions to find myself responding to some discovery, “Gosh! Did I do that?” There have been also, of course, occasions on which I have exhumed pieces that were best left buried! On the whole, however, the experience has been a very positive one.
Certainly, when I hung my Almscliff Crag show at the South Square Centre, I emerged with a very positive feeling about what I had accomplished. Now that I’m working on the selection of material for my exhibition at the Manor House in Ilkley, I am experiencing the rediscovery of some items and a very positive expectation about how they might be received. I shall keep digging in hope.
