At last, after months without creativity, I have managed to settle into painting again! I wonder if you can imagine how desolate it has felt to be unable to work. This week, however, I made a good start on an entirely new piece. Well: “entirely new”? I’ve actually worked over an old piece I decided had no future. That has turned out quite well, in fact, because scraps of the original colour showing through have added subtly to the new composition. The piece is experimental in a couple of other respects also. I am using a mixture of media, which in unusual for me. My way of working has changed, being much more loose and impressionistic than my usual style.
My wife is very enthusiastic about it, which is encouraging because her judgement is usually sound. This piece uses some of the reference material I collected during my recent “art retreat” week in Derbyshire. Let’s see where we can go from here.
