Gosh! Did I do that?

I’ve been sorting through some pictures looking for a selection which I might possibly submit for an on-line exhibition. I wanted there to be some thematic unity, and I am very well aware that it is far easier to transport work in acrylic (should it sell) than pastels. Having hit upon a theme I was trolling through my files and came across a piece I painted many years ago, which fitted my requirements perfectly. At some point in the past I had relegated it to my store in the cellar, instead of the racks in the studio, indicating that I hadn’t rated it very highly. Suddenly, however, I saw it in a completely different light, and I’m seriously thinking of exhibiting it. How could I have reached that earlier judgement? I do find it interesting (although puzzling) that one’s appreciation of a piece of work can be so divergent over a period of time. The reverse process can also apply, of course, and it has been that case that items I have really cherished as good examples of what I can do, can equally suddenly appear trivial and uninteresting. Interesting …. but puzzling. evaluating
