Little things mean a lot

This morning I wrote a “personal statement” in preparation for my solo exhibition at the Apothecary Gallery in May. I never find these tasks easy, because it requires some kind of prescience about the nature of one’s readership. Who are these people out there who might be seeing my publicity information? What do they need to know? What exactly do I want them to know?

I am sure that what I have written will be more effective, however, because my wife helpfully agreed to read through my draft, and made several comments on it. Apart from anything else it is now better-written. It is a sad fact that even after twenty-five years of retirement from academic life and engagement with art, the shadow of academe still seems to fall across anything that I write. Little things mean a lot.
