The value of “old fashioned”

This afternoon I walked round our neighbourhood distributing leaflets about my forthcoming exhibition. “You did WHAT!?” I hear you cry. Leaflets? Who uses them any more in the age of electronic communication? Actually, it isn’t a silly idea. With several of them I had the opportunity for personal conversation with the recipient. Relationships are reinforced in this way, and a sense of mutual commitment established. In one case I discovered that my neighbours wife is keenly interested in art (they have not been in the neighbourhood for long, so it was news to me) and there is the possibility of a rather deeper relationship which could well benefit us both. The poster in the post-office will reach people who would never have come across a message on facebook, or the like. …. Oh! I also got some exercise which would not have been the case if I had spent the time seated at the computer.

Call me “old-fashioned:” if you like, but ….
