This morning I hung my new display in Shipley, and I think that it looks quite good. I just hope that other people think so!
The title I have given to it is Beyond. The theme refers to, or even merely suggests, something lying beyond the immediate field of one’s vision. Often there are shafts or cleavages in rock, or narrow gullies dividing sea cliffs, through which a view is implied rather than depicted. I suppose that if it is “about” anything it has to do with a sense of possibility. Although I have sold three of the series in the past there has never been an opportunity to make this the central theme of a self-contained exhibition. It will be interesting to see what is the response from the public.
Unlike the gush of activity following my Bradgate Park visit, this body of work has been accumulating slowly over many years. It is interesting to observe the way in which the germ of an idea can work away in the back of one’s mind, only yielding solid results every now and then.
