The details of my forthcoming exhibition are now confirmed. Entitled “Finding the Green Man” will take place in Skipton Parish Church between Saturday 21 September and Wednesday 30 October. I hope you can drop in, if you live reasonably close to Skipton. A part of the interest of the event is that the ancient parish church actually has a “Green Man” on one of the roof bosses in the nave, so I hope there will be a local response.
Recently, in this blog, I used the familiar image of the difficulty of turning an oil tanker at sea. To my amusement the other day the BBC’s “fact-checking” programme More or Less investigated the aptness of this phrase. Consulting a senior specialist from the merchant marine they were surprised to discover how rapidly this can take place. Apparently the correct figure is no more than about five minutes. Well, well!
