Yes: that’s the one! He was the one who had to keep rolling a boulder up the hill eternally. I was thinking about him today as I worked on the revision of my web-site.
This task is long overdue, largely because of the amount of labour I knew it would involve. Now I have grasped the task firmly and commissioned a web-designer to take on the job. I say, “take on the job”, but as you might imagine, she cannot do her work until I have prepared the ground. The revision of the text has not been too onerous a task, and this afternoon I sent off the last of the files to her. The real killer, of course, is the preparation of the illustrations.
I have not counted these, but it would not surprise me to discover the there are around a hundred of them to be identified, located, labelled, copied and sent off. This is also an opportunity for me to eliminate items where I judge either that the original item is not one I want to keep before the public, or where the quality of the photograph is inferior. My designer has kindly prepared a spread sheet for me to use in organising the information. It is probable that when I get into it, and the work becomes routine, it will not appear to be quite so daunting.
In one way it is a relief to know that I must take a couple of days away from this (our any other) task, because we are going to a funeral and a family get-together. (For this reason there will also be a break in this blog.) This time will be required, I’m afraid, to psych myself up.
