I had no idea, when I launched the current revision process for this website, just what a task it would turn out to be. As it happens, revising the text has not been too difficult a process. The real effort is in the illustrations. Of course, I have to take on the updating of these. I’ve actually done quite a lot of work since it was last revised. More to the point, however, do I still want to leave “on the record” everything that has accumulated over the years? There are dozens of decisions to be made.
The bigger task, however, is that of identifying and locating the originals of the pictures I do want to include. Than, having done that, I have too compile clear instructions for the web-designer, who is putting it all into order. The key idea here is “system”. Laura has very kindly sent me a spreadsheet, on which it can all be marshalled. That, however, is only the start of the process. There are glimmerings of light, but ….
They do say that it “is an ill wind that blows nobody any good”. I guess that is true in my case also. My shoulder injury continues to play up, and I have had to pull out of my scheduled climbing session tomorrow. I will have no excuse now standing in the way of my just getting my head down all day. Whoever thought that being an artist could be such hard work?
