It has been a persisting puzzle to me as to which is the best system for storing photographs of my work. A couple of years ago a colleague mentioned the Dropbox system to me, and in fact registered me with them. For a variety of reasons, I have never had the occasion to familiarise myself with it …. until now. As I wrestle with the task of updating my website the scale of the task I need to address in revising the visual side of the site emerges. It turns out to be a gigantic piece of work. I made a tentative, probing visit to Dropbox yesterday, and it became clear very rapidly that I could do with a tutorial. My friend is coming over on Wednesday afternoon, and I’m hopeful that I will acquire enough familiarity with how it works to enable me to finish the job.
I have to admit that I am pretty hopeless when it comes to the understanding and use of contemporary information technology. Unless I have somebody to hold my hand I know that I will have difficulty in getting anywhere. The job of website revision is going along well now, however, and I am hopeful that once I get a grip on the manipulation of photographs it will be possible to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.
Some years ago I was convinced that I had a waterproof system for storing and recovering photos, based on CDs. It now emerges, of course, that nobody, but nobody, uses CDs any more. I do wish that the world would stand still for a while, but I do acknowledge the utopian character of that wish.
