A general election has been announced in this country, which will be run according to an electoral law that is totally out of date, and with campaigning that is in large measure both corrupt and mendacious. There will be six weeks of bad rhetoric probably leading to a result that will leave us no better off than we were at the start of the process. The communications media will have little else to talk about. Already my facebook page is peppered with political comment from people who I’m sure will not have fact-checked the stuff they are circulating.
Thank goodness for the life-drawing class I will be attending tonight! It promises to be an oasis of civilisation and calm in a mad world!
I read the other day a comment to the effect that to be an artist you need to be slightly mad. Actually, I reckon it is only in art that we can find sanity.
