We will be setting out tomorrow to spend the week-end in Worcester. It is a place we’ve never visited before, and for that reason alone it would be worth looking forward to. I’m more than just “looking forward” to the trip. I’m positively excited. The cause of this state of mind is the fact that I will be meeting staff at the Cathedral in order to discuss my solo exhibition there in February. I will be showing my series of watercolours entitled Set Apart. (These are the subject of one of the “galleries” elsewhere in this website. Do take a look.)
I find that it is all too easy as an artist to become deeply involved in creation and forget that effort has to be made to secure exhibition opportunities. Recently I’ve realised that perhaps I have had the balance wrong, and I’ve been putting in more of an effort to get my work out there. The decision seems to be paying off, and the Worcester visit is one of the fruits of that.
The irony of the situation lies in the fact that this very week-end I happen to have had ideas for two new pictures, to which I will have no chance of attending for at least another week. Right now, however, I’m celebrating the good news.
