For only the second time since I took up art as my central activity, about twenty years ago, I have received an expression of interest from a commercial gallery.* Although I have exhibited regularly over that period, and indeed sold some of my work, it has rarely been the case that I have received that kind of vote of confidence. I doubt that I will ever find myself in a position in which the income from the sale of my art exceeds my income from, my occupational pension, nevertheless there is perhaps a feeling in the air that something might be changing. It would be nice to think so.
While preparing dinner with my wife tonight I looked out through the kitchen window to find that a neighbour’s cat had just caught a mouse in the garden. After a few moments, however, it became pretty obvious that this was a relatively new experience for the cat. It didn’t really seem to know what the purpose of this activity was, and what it was supposed to do next. I do hope that this is not a metaphor for my current situation.
