As often happens, when our grandson is visiting he asks if we can do some art together. I’m really glad of these opportunities, but often surprised by the way they turn out. The choice of medium and subject I usually leave to him, and today, to my surprise, he opted for pen and ink, and somehow we ended up drawing large machines. I’m not sure where either of these ideas came from, but he decided that he was going to draw a machine for making bricks, whereas I opted for a machine to make hummus.*
I really cannot explain the twist of the imagination which decided that my machine had to be staffed by dwarves, all wearing knitted beanies. As Kurt Vonnegut used to say: “So it goes!”
- I suppose it was on my mind because I’m supposed to make some tomorrow. It’s something I haven’t done for ages, but I do enjoy doing it.
