Spoiled for choice

There are times when I find myself wondering what on earth I ought to be doing, as none of the possibilities available appear to be very rewarding. Every now and then I do find myself faced with a choice between two activities, both of which are quite appealing, and even offer the possibility of some success. Right now, however, I find myself trying to juggle the demands of three of my favourite occupations. Feeling slightly guilty, I committed myself today to my regular Tuesday climbing session. The tinge of guilt was a result of the fact that art is going to well at the moment. I have drafted out a new picture, worked up from some reference photos I took a few days back. It has reached the stage at which it is obvious that what I ought to be doing is really throwing myself into it for art least a solid and continuous day’s session. Climbing won, however, and I don’t think that I really regret that.

To add to the difficulty of my choices, we are now in the middle of the snooker Masters’ tournament. This is the only sport I follow with any degree of commitment. Surely nobody would begrudge me a day or so of immersion?

I reckon that I have got the balance reasonably right. Today was spent at the Harrogate climbing wall. On my return I was too exhausted to do anything but spend two hours in front of the TV watching snooker. Tomorrow the decks are clear for the greater part of the day spent painting. Then, if that goes as well as I hope, and I feel good about the result, I shall reward myself in the evening with a couple of hours of the Masters’. Life is all a matter of finding the right balance, I think. It does occur to me also that I am incredible fortunate to find myself in as situation in which these are my primary choices.
