I decided that this year I would enter work again for the Sheffield Open exhibition. After my “art retreat” earlier in the year I have a small collection of pictures which are likely to attract local interest on yjat region. In keeping with my usual practice I have photographed all my work, for reference purposes, and a a resource of making applications of this kind. To my horror I have discovered that they want photos submitted as part of the selection process to include the mount and frame. I’ve never heard of such a thing. The reason I was given when I ‘phoned up is that potential purchasers will want to know what they are getting …. including the mount and frame. This means that I have had to photograph all of my entries again, and because some of these are behind glass I will have to send in two versions of each …. the original image without glass, so that reflections don’t disrupt the image, and a version which included the frame and mount, but in which the image is distorted by the inevitable reflections in the glass.
It’s a crazy system, and I’m toying with the possibility that I might change my selection so that no items are included that are framed behind glass, or perhaps even not to bother as the whole rigmarole is too much of a bother. I would love to know if any of my readers have encountered this crazy system.
