Having been a regular user of a printer in connection with my art work for a good twenty years now I am constantly amazed and irritated by the steady decrease in the ease with which these things can be persuaded to operate. Several months ago we were compelled to buy a new printer when the old one packed up.* It has been a constant struggle to persuade the new one to cooperate with the computer. The message “searching for printer” is scarcely credible. The information that there is a problem with the paper feed is a blatant lie.
The wretched thing refused absolutely to print some images I needed this morning to send to a gallery with which I am in contact. In the end we devised a cumbersome but effective routine to circumvent the problem. I emailed the images to my wife, who was then able to download and print them. Why? God only knows.
Why is it the case that I could get into any normal production car and drive away with little problem, but printers remain idiosyncratic and unintelligible, even given the instruction booklet? It’s crazy!
*The lack of durability of these things is another issue!
