Today is my 80th birthday. I suppose that it should not be surprising that I have anticipated it with a mixture of horror and pleasure. In the event the pleasure has won out, and I have felt that it has been possible to affirm my continuing enthusiasm for the things I have always enjoyed rather than regretted their passing. My wife and I went for a lovely walk this morning in Skipton Castle Woods and followed this with a meal out together.
The walk was wonderful, as the woods are filled at the moment with a dense carpet of wild garlic. I know that bluebell woods are celebrated at this time of the year, but this display could compete with any bluebells. The word “spectacular” is the most suitable one I can think of.
