After a brief silence ….

….I am delighted to be able to express my thanks to members of my family, who treated me to an early 80th. birthday present, namely, a day at the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. It was a tremendous day, for which I am really thankful.

There were a couple of brief and unexpected encounters. I found myself at lunch sharing a table with a visitor from Russia …. wearing a “No to war!” T-shirt in Russian and English. During the match I was seated next to an Indian visitor. Both of them had travelled all the way to Sheffield to see the match. I am accustomed to thinking of art as a global phenomenon, but it seems to compare poorly with snooker.

Tomorrow the world of dreams is over, and I will spend the morning taking down my Thornton exhibition.
