Apocalypse now!

“Could it get any worse?” We asked ourselves, as we looked out of the window and saw the lawn littered with the corpses of mice. This virus thing is surely only doing for people, isn’t it? The rest of nature isn’t at risk, is it?

We went outside to investigate, and discovered that what we thought were mice were just the hairy husks of the casings of magnolia blossoms. I can tell you, it gave us a very strange moment.

Actually, for the most part our experience of “lockdown” (quarantine in English) is turning out to be quite pleasant so far. The sense of pressure on life has dissipated, and I am actually being more productive on the art front that I have been for ages.

I have been making another discovery, however, and that is just how wonderful English humour can be under these circumstances. My facebook account is full of hilarious jokes of one kind or another. Either we are all mad and have not grasped just what is going on, or this is the only way to respond to the kind of apocalyptic events we encounter on the news each day.

Keep safe, and don’t loose your sense of humour.

Today is our twenty-first wedding anniversary, so maybe that has something to do with the fact that I am in such a good mood.
