How about this for timing? Britain is in the middle of a bout of dreadful weather at the moment. There are dozens of flood warnings in force as a result of the arrival of Storm Denis. Outside the house it is blowing a gale and the precipitation oscillates between rain, hail and snow. In fact, it is perfectly dreadful out there.
Is it some deity’s idea of a joke that at precisely this time I get an idea for a new picture, based upon landscape? To get the project under way I need to go and collect some reference material from a waterfall out in the woods and a rocky outcrop on an exposed ridge.
Instead of a gratifying day of sketching and photography I have to pass the time putting price labels on the material I will be taking to Worcester for my exhibition. Ah well!
