I do wish that it might be possible to get rid of a “festival” which appears to celebrate nothing but ugliness. As an artist I am offended by the public display of so much tasteless tat, which carries no coherent meaning. The sole purpose of the occasion is to persuade people to part with more of their money in return for a minimal and entirely transitory sensation. Its original religious significance has been lost, and this contemporary version is an import from the USA which has no roots at all in our culture.
