Somewhat to my consternation the rector at the church in Skipton, where my “Green Man” series is now on show, has suggested that it might be interesting to make this the theme of a presentation to children in the local church school. What a great idea! Until I realise that what he has in mind is that I am the one to do the presentation. It is a very long time indeed since I did anything for children …. probably around forty years, if I’m honest.
There its no definite commitment as yet, and certainly no date, but I have already begun to look for metaphorical inflatables to give me support. A chat with a friend this morning, who has enormous experience working with kids, was encouraging, and I will certainly look for her advice if the plan does firm up. My wife had some sensible things to say over dinner tonight. So, I’m not panicking as yet.
This is an interesting contrast to the development of my thoughts about a possible talk to adults, where my mind is already racing. (More of that anon, perhaps.) To my surprise, I am finding it quite a refreshing change to begin thinking again about writing, which at one time was my bread and butter. Even so, I doubt very much that I have abandoned painting, even if I do appear to be taking a sabbatical at the moment.
