It is far from easy to keep my attention focussed on anything artistic at the moment, even ‘though I am trying hard to advance my familiarity with egg tempera as a medium. For some years we have been aware that the conservatory attached to the house has been in increasingly urgent need of replacement. Not long ago we discovered that rot in the timbers had developed to the point at which it was likely to demolish itself in a bad storm! So, we made the commitment to replace it, and now the plan has developed to the point at which, yesterday, the old one was taken apart and the site cleared in preparation for the installation of the new one next week. I find it quite exciting to see this long-nurtured plan coming to fruition at last, but the attempt to sustain any consistent attention to art is a constant struggle. Isn’t it strange that, given the fact that I would say that art is one of the most important things in my life, it is so easy to divert my attention from it?
