The past few weeks have been pretty wretched, from an art point of view. I can’t remember when I actually produced anything worthwhile (or not worthwhile, for that matter.) I am hoping, however, that the tide might have turned. The weather over the past two days has been really lovely, and my wife and I have been able to get to a garden centre, stock up with things we need to begin to repair the ravages of winter, and start the task of restoration. My mission has been the redemption of the lawn, which has been absolutely ravaged by a combination of squirrels and the deposit of sycamore seeds.* It is amazing how much my morale has been restored even by this brief experience. To add to my sense of hopefulness, I noticed today that the blue-tits are back in the garden. They nested here last year.
Why is it that I can’t actually do art if I’m depressed? I would never make a Grosz, Kahlo or Munch.
*If squirrels had a passion for eating sycamore seeds I would tolerate them. The good news is that a tree at the end of the road was blown over recently, and had to be removed. I don’t know whether the dray was in that, or the commotion just disturbed the squirrel colony. Their numbers have been drastically reduced over the past two weeks.
