I will be taking a brief break for the next few days because we are going down to Salisbury in order to see the Laurence Edwards exhibition at the Messums Gallery, in Tisbury. I commented some weeks ago about the impact this sculptor’s work had on me when I encountered the catalogue of the exhibition. It really did seem to me to be one of those opportunities I would be foolish to miss. In addition, I have been aware for some time of the interest of the gallery and its activities, and I am sure it will be worth a visit.
Messums also have a gallery in London, but they have set up this establishment in the Wiltshire countryside, which gives the flexibility to do a number of more adventurous things which would not be possible in the setting of a conventional London gallery. I’m looking forward very much to the experience, and no doubt in a few days’ time I’ll be telling you all about it.
In fact, I’ll be turning from a producer of art to a consumer for a few days, as I’ve also decided that next week I’ll make a one-day raid on London in order to see the big Walter Sickert exhibition, running currently at Tate Britain. I’ve never before had the chance to really get to grips with Sickert, and having read two very positive reviews of the show I really think that it would be a shame to pass up this opportunity. It sounds very exciting.
As the man said, however, “I’ll be back!”
