OK. Before we go any further let me insist that this was a dream. Even so, stick with me because I think that interesting things come out of it. I was awoken this morning by the vividness of a dream. For some reason I cannot fathom, the subject of this was the nature and existence of the State of Israel in Palestine. It went like this.
A young historian claimed that there were reasons to believe that his family could lay claim to great and ancient distinction within the Jewish people, and proposed to make a TV programme based on his ideas. He convinced several other people of great distinction, academics and others, to join with him in this project, during which it began to emerge that there it contained possibilities that far outran the scope of a TV programme or even a series. Far greater time and resources would be needed in order properly to exhaust the political, cultural and religious implications for the Middle East of developing and exploring his vision.*
Nothing came of these exciting possibilities, however, because his sponsors in the media could not see beyond the necessary practical limitations of TV programming. Not surprisingly, the whole thing fell apart …. at which point I woke up. Where that all came from Heaven only knows. What is most interesting is the fact that even in the middle of a bizarre dream there is a nugget of reality.
Reality can be odd also. I’m a little later posting tonight because we have just finished an on-line birthday party for my daughter-in-law.
*Don’t expect any details here. This was a dream.
