I have been quite pleased by the way in which my study of rocks from Mynydd Parys turned out. It struck me that it might be interesting to do something similar based on local materials.* So the plan for tomorrow morning is to drive over to Almscliff Crag (where else?) and collect some rock samples from there, to make the basis for a possible composition.
The Crag is interesting in that it is formed of the “High Man” and the “Low Man”, and these geological layers rest on a base of older sandstone. If I have the time I might go down to the river Wharfe, and see if I can find a specimen of stone that will be even older. It is in my mind that I might introduce some sketchy elements of landscape, but I’ll see how it goes. It is exciting to have a new project!
