Drove down to Sheffield today for the selection process in preparation for the Great Sheffield Art Show. Applicants are allowed to submit six entries. I put in five, and all were accepted. I’m really pleased.
I was rather deterred at first when the organisers announced that the theme of the show would be “Places of Worship”, and I had almost decided that I would give it a miss this year. Then an idea struck me. Some years ago I did a series of pictures of ancient stone circles (see my “gallery” under the title Holy Stones.) Clearly the decision to interpret their theme very broadly has paid off. I shall be very interested to see whether there are other equally imaginative interpretations of their title.
Incidentally, the selection process struck me as a model of well-thought-out organisation, from which several other open competitions I have encountered could learn.
