I have noticed before that “inspiration” in art is not necessarily a matter of some sudden insight. Just as frequently (perhaps even more frequently) ideas which have been precipitated by some experience take some time to rise to the surface of consciousness and achieve any kind of clarity. This is certainly the case with our recent visit to the island of Anglesey.
I have to admit that when I first arrived back at home I felt rather disappointed by the experience. My expectation that the trip would be stimulating, and would set in motion new ideas and projects, appeared not to have been justified. My prevailing mood was a feeling that I really should just turn round and go straight back again, because although I had grasped a rather general feeling of what would be interesting about the place, this had failed to take any specific form. During the day, however, I have begun to believe that perhaps there is more material buried in my subconsciousness than I had suspected.
The coming week will be a rather busy one, for one reason or another, and it will be interesting to see the extent to which, without being in a position to force anything, artistic possibilities rooted in the experiences of the past week do begin to take a more specific form.
I enjoy your blog. This is an odd feeling that I’ve experienced lately that there is something bubbling that wants to be set free.
Thanks, Kathy. I’m glad you like the blog. I hope also that your bubbles come to the surface soon, and with the nice colours that bubbles usually show in the sunlight.
