The picture I bought the other day was delivered this afternoon, and I’m pleased to say that I have absolutely no regrets about having done so. I’m always worried when I buy a picture that it will not live up to the expectations I have of it. That is certainly not the case on this occasion. In fact, if anything I like it more already than when I saw it in the gallery. There is one small problem to be overcome, in that this house is rather dark (it is very old) and it will not be straightforward to find a place where it is optimally visible without being too much in sunshine. (I reckon it is probably to some degree sensitive to too much light.) I guess that an old favourite will have to be sent into retirement for a while.
This afternoon I drove over to Sowerby Bridge to proof-read the brochure for my exhibition in Lincoln Cathedral next month. I’m really pleased with it, and I think that it will do me credit. I was a little cautious about it when I sent the draft, but second thoughts don’t seem to be in order.
Taken together, these two events have served to lift my spirits after the disappointment of yesterday.
