It is highly likely that I will not be posting tomorrow, because I will be driving down to Nottinghamshire (with my friend Richard Mort) in order to attend the annual Open Competition at the Patchings Centre for the Arts and Crafts. As regular readers might possibly recall, one of my pieces has been accepted for exhibition there. I’ve never attended the show previously, so it seems to be a good idea to check it out and see what kind of company I’m keeping.
This is a strange kind of period for several reasons. I have managed to get myself wound up and enthusiastic about my art again, but find that I can’t actually do anything for a few days. My new “creation” series is stalled for the moment because, having finished a piece, I can’t start another until I’ve had a session with a model for one of the figures. (I hope to see the guy I have in mind on Sunday.) Last night’s life-drawing class was enormous fun, as we were introduced to the technique of mono prints, which is new to me. I can’t wait to have another go, but (of course) at the moment I don’t have my own kit. (Hey! There’s a thought. There is an art shop at the Patchings Centre ….) Apart from anything else there is, of course, the enormous distraction of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. The recent mixture of warm weather and the occasional showers has resulted in the garden going crazy …. and so on, and so on. Sanity will shortly be restored.
