I’ve realised today that I have to take to heart a lesson I should have learned long ago. It is one thing to have good ideas, and quite another to realise these in finished form. I’m very much afraid that I’m in for a long hard slog if I am to make anything of the image that has been buzzing around my head for the past two days. I guess that I’m just coming up against that old myth about art, widely held by the general public, that being an artist is primarily about “inspiration”. Anybody can have inspiration, in some sense or degree. A proper artist is somebody who is able to give concrete form to that stimulus.
