Well, I’m back from my family (and other) engagements in London. So I hope that normal service will be resumed from now on.
As usual, I couldn’t visit London without some kind of “art raid”, and on this occasion I decided I would revisit the Courtauld Institute. It has been closed for a while for renovation, but in any case for reasons I can’t understand I had somehow fallen out of the habit of including it in my regular visits to galleries. Already it is back on my agenda for the next visit to London. The highlight of today’s excursion was an exhibition of drawing, entitled From Pen to Brush, from their collection. There were some wonderful things on show, and I was taken back to the art lessons we had in school. The words of our art master Mr. Wilson were ringing in my ears about the need to develop “control over the fine muscles in the hand”. The kind of extreme manual dexterity, and sensitivity of touch, that he had in mind were certainly on display today! What amazing things can be produced with simple materials!
