Just in case you have not been following the BBC TV series “Strictly come dancing” this year, it includes a male, same-sex partnership. My late brother Pete was gay, and watching the programme I have wished frequently that it might have bewen possible to share the experience of watching it with him. It was never possible for a variety of reasons to acknowledge Pete’s sexuality …. at least, until our parents died, when my wife and I reached a situation with him where we knew, and he knew we knew, and we knew that he knew how it was with us. This year’s “Strictly” would have provided a great opportunity to really get to know Pete, and for him to know that he was accepted for what he was. Sadly, it is too late for that now because Pete is no longer with us. I would like to think, however, that the series might provide an opportunity for a number of other people to get to share the kind of relationship which I ought to have been able to develop with my brother.
