I went this lunch-time to set up my latest display, in the restaurant/deli in the village. (Their name is “Origin Fine Foods”.) They have very kindly allowed me to put my pictures in one of their two dining areas. The display looks good, as the room has a pleasantly informal atmosphere and an attractive colour-scheme that goes very well with my pictures. I’m very grateful to them for the opportunity.*
As regular readers of this blog will be aware, for a long time now I have been displaying my pictures also in a restaurant/pub in North Rigton (between Otley and Harrogate). That arrangement has worked out very well, and we have built up a happy relationship …. as well as selling several of my pictures. I have come to realise that conventional galleries are not the only places in which art can be displayed to good advantage, and it will be interesting to see how this new opportunity develops.
The hanging exercise was something of a challenge, and not only because I didn’t take with me a spare supply of hanging cord! Unlike other places in which I have displayed pictures it has been necessary here to take into consideration both the movement of customers and the need to position works so that anybody who wants to look at one of them doesn’t have to peer too intrusively over the heads of other diners. My pieces are hung rather higher than usual as a consequence, but I hope that the solution I have adopted will work out well for all concerned. It is interesting to note the way in which relatively small differences in the space impose significantly different requirements in relation to the way art is displayed.
