The shocking truth about me

Yesterday I thought that I had discovered the measure of my true commitment to art, in that I sacrificed a day’s walking in the countryside with friends in order to paint.  Just how much more than that is it possible to be committed? Today the relative strength of that commitment was revealed.

I went into  the garden and discovered that birds had found a way under the protective netting I had erected over the soft fruit and there they were …. In flagrante delictu!  That was my breakfast they were running off with!  As soon as it was practically possible I leapt into the car and headed for the garden centre, where reinforcements of netting were bought.  The fruit bed now looks rather like Long Kesh (well, it’s not actually barbed wire), but short of being able to tunnel under the perimiter the beggars are not going to get in there again, I can tell you.  Springwatch be damned!  Art can wait.  I now know where my true priorities lie.
