I have to confess that my grasp of contemporary technology is tenuous. I realised this today when I offered to pay somebody by cheque, and was politely refused. The point was really made very clearly when I went over to York today to see Joe Gilmore, who designed and who services this web-site. For a variety of reasons it has been a disgracefully long time since I did any maintenance work on the site, as perhaps you have noticed. There is, unfortunately, a pronounced technophobe streak in my makeup.* A session with “Uncle Joe”, however, has stiffened my morale, even if it has not actually augmented my competence a great deal.
So: tomorrow I intend to get stuck in and iron out some of the evident creases in the fabric of the site. Necessarily, however, it will be a matter of patching an old jacket. Several people have pointed out to me now that the site doesn’t perform too well on mobile devices. (An indication of how dated is my knowledge is given by my failure to appreciate until very recently that it might be possible to look at a web-site like mine on a mobile ‘phone!) Not too far down the line I will have to screw up my courage (and examine my purse!) and undertake a pretty thorough restructuring. Until then, however, I’ll have to make do, and try to ensure that this site works as well as I can make it.
