Our six year old grandson arrived today to spend three days with us. I can promise you that nothing will be “normal” again until his parents collect him on Friday.
It was gratifying that the first thing he said when he came through the door was, “When can we paint?” The first session this evening was good fun, although he did end up coated to the elbows in pastel. The theme was his idea …. a landscape based on a favourite walk of the family, near where he lives. He did summer: I did winter. I was delighted that he insisted that flying birds should not all have their wings in the same positions. We ended with a discussion of the colour wheel. One thing is very clear already. The next few days are going to be pretty busy. Fortunately my wife has booked some sessions too, otherwise I would be pretty well worn out by Friday. One thing is clear already. A child’s art is still art. I’m looking forward to learning from him.
