I’ve decided that this is what I’m doing at the moment. At one time I thought that if I wasn’t actually painting I wasn’t “doing art”. Now I have come to realise that it is possible to be processing material almost beneath the level of consciousness–perhaps even completely so. At the moment there is something going on down there about experiments with different techniques. I have a vague idea that it is driven by my looking forward to an exhibition which I am committed to in October, in Holt (Norfolk), which will take up ideas I have vaguely touched on before, relating to beaches and the sea. It is all just out of sight, however, so I’m not actually sure what is happening. When it does break the surface, however, you will be the first to know about it.
