Yesterday I underwent the implantation of a heart pacemaker, and I am back home again attempting to catch up with “normal” existence. I suppose that as these experiences go it should be assessed as very good. The Bradford Royal Infirmary were very efficient, and the nursing staff with whom I came into contact were kindness indeed. Not surprisingly, I am feeling rather bruised in the shoulder where surgery took place, and I have been sleeping a great deal. Otherwise, I feel fine, and it is probably a sign of my return to normality that I am thinking already of my next picture. Sadly, it is indicative of the fact that I am not quite back to normal that I have decided miss these Manor opening of what promises to be a fine new exhibition at the Ilkley Manor House. (I’ll get around to it soon enough.)
It is to be expected that an experience of this kind would make one aware of mortality …. which I have to admit has been rarely on my mind in the past. On reflection, perhaps the series of images of ancient trees, which has preoccupied me over the past couple of months, might be viewed in that light.
